statement: Are avant-garde practices still important to you?

In truth, I have never basically thought of what I do as “avant garde” or “traditional” or anything else. I do what I do because I am trying to say or reveal or create everything all at once, to make a kind of universal totem that would help me understand or “see” or “know” what I am where I am what is the world. That is hard to do, and involves, it seems, distorting everyday social language and imagery, so that they reveal or contain more. People want to attach a name to that, and “avant garde” is frequently the term they choose.
